As we all know Soccer or commonly known as football is an extremely physically demanding sport. Although it is played by approximately 250 million people in over 200 countries, only in the recent past have studies been conducted regarding the needs of nutritional supplements in additional to a healthy diet.

On average a soccer player can cover between 7-10 miles in a 90 minute match, with a large amount of that distance being made up of short to medium distant sprints and sharp lateral movements, along with jumping and tackling. Due to the quick direction change movements required of soccer athletes, coupled with the increasing physical demands of the sport, players are at a unique risk for muscle strain injuries and fatigue.

In addition, to the risk of muscle injury comes a very high risk of dehydration. It has been stated in many studies that soccer athletes lose an average of 2.2 liters of fluid (sweat) per match, while only consuming less than one liter of fluids before, during, and after the match.
